For Elder Care Professionals

If you work with seniors in Ontario — as a social worker, geriatric care manager, family lawyer, or in retirement-home administration — you have likely encountered HVAC contracts your client cannot fully reconstruct. Door-to-door sales of essential home equipment to seniors is one of the most documented patterns in Ontario consumer protection enforcement.

What we see most often

Seniors living alone are disproportionately targeted by door-to-door HVAC sales operators across Ontario.

Contracts often run 10-15 years, with totals 3-10× the equipment's installed value, and frequently include a registration on title that the senior never understood was being filed.

The 2018 CPA amendments — particularly the unconscionable-pricing and unsolicited-contact grounds — apply directly to most of these contracts.

What we offer

  • We frequently work with adult children acting on behalf of senior parents.
  • Power of attorney documentation is welcomed but not always required — direct authorisation from the senior is sufficient where they have capacity.
  • Plain-language communication: every step explained without legal jargon.
  • Free review and confidential consultation.

Referral pathway

Pass our /get-started page or contact information to the senior or their adult children. We respect the family's preferred communication channel.
