HVAC Contract Help in Northern Ontario

Northern Ontario — Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and North Bay — has been actively canvassed by door-to-door HVAC operators despite the demanding cold-climate context for some equipment categories.

About this region

Northern Ontario's mature housing stock, harsh winter climate, and mix of owner-occupied homes have made the region a recurring market for furnace, water heater, and (increasingly) heat pump door-to-door pitches. Greener Homes Grant claims have featured heavily in recent rounds.

The legal framework

The 2018 amendments to Ontario's Consumer Protection Act apply province-wide. Six grounds — unconscionable pricing, unsolicited contact, misrepresented energy savings, unfulfilled maintenance, improper installation, and unfulfilled rebate promises — can render a Northern Ontario HVAC agreement unenforceable. Only one needs to apply. See the full six grounds.
