Statement of Claim

A formal court filing by which a plaintiff (often a finance company) initiates a lawsuit against a homeowner over an Ontario HVAC contract. Carries a hard deadline to file a defence.

In Ontario Superior Court, a defendant typically has 20 days from service to file a Statement of Defence. In Small Claims Court, the analogous deadline is 20 days for a Defence.

Missing the deadline can result in default judgment. If you have received a Statement of Claim from CHICC, SNAP, Crown Crest, or another HVAC finance company, get representation immediately.
